FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Club Development ProgramJoint effort with Newbridge RFC, South Wales, UK to help develop rugby in GastoniaJuly 2 2008 -- After a series of discussions we are proud to announce that Gastonia RFC and Newbridge RFC from the United Kingdom are working together to grow rugby in Gastonia. Newbridge RFC will be sharing their experience in building links with the community, growing the club and improving the overall visibility of rugby in the area. They will also be sharing coaching and training tips with the club members and staff. Exchange programs are in discussion to send local players to Wales to experience club rugby at its best, and to welcome Newbrige RFC players here in the US to experience rugby, American style. Dan Gilbert, President of the Gastonia rugby club stated - "I am very excited and grateful to Newbridge RFC for their offer to mentor us into becoming a better rugby club, I am sure we will learn a lot from them. It is also a tremendous opportunity for our top players to get a chance to experience club rugby in Wales." About Newbridge RFC: Newbridge RFC was established in 1888 and gained admission to the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) in 1911. It is a Welsh rugby union club based in Newbridge in South Wales. They presently play in the WRU Division One East and are a feeder club for the Newport Gwent Dragons. Their website is www.newbridgerfc.co.uk. About Gastonia RFC: Gastonia RFC was established in 2004. It joined the North Carolina Rugby Union (NCRU) in 2007 and plays as a Division III club in USA Rugby South, based in Gastonia, NC, they play their home games at North Belmont Park in Gaston County.
