Clover 7s is our annual tournament held the second Saturday in June in cooperation with the Clover Highland Festival. Clover 7s is a small one-day tournament, however we compare well to much larger tournaments. Along with the rugby, players can participate in the highland games and Scots-Irish festival. The pitch is second to none, being the full sized Clover Memorial Football Stadium. ABOUT RUGBY 7s Rugby, the forerunner of American football is a full contact sport in which players wearing little or no padding tackle each other while attempting to advance the ball to the goal at the end of the field (called the "pitch"). Teams consist of fifteen players who play two forty-minute halves. Rugby sevens is a variation first played in Melrose, Scotland in 1883 in which two teams consisting of seven players play two seven-minute halves. Sevens is a fast-paced game more suited to our hot weather, due to the shorter playing time. As the host club for the Clover Sevens Tournament, the Gastonia Gargoyles Rugby Football Club of Gastonia, North Carolina are pleased to be able to bring rugby sevens to the Clover community. |
