2004 - Ron Dasher starts a social club based in Gastonia, they adopt the
name 'Gastonia Gargoyles'. The name 'The Gargoyles' dates back to a
previous club based in Charlotte NC, that had folded. Colors are debated,
with several members having US Air Force backgrounds, Blue and White is
chosen for the uniforms.

2005 - The club continues to grow, playing social rugby. It suffers from
inconsistent membership with numbers varying widely from game to game
and season to season. GRFC demonstrates 7s rugby at the Highland
Festival in Clover, South Carolina.

2006 - GRFC Re-organizes, adopting new colors and a new logo. Club
registers with USA Rugby as Gastonia Rugby Football Club. The team
colors were changed after a match during a torrential downpour in which the
white jerseys and shorts didn't do well after several hours of play in the North
Carolina clay. Red and Black are chosen as the new team colors. The new
logo (below) is drawn by Mike James, the club fly-half. GRFC hosts its first
full tournament in Clover, SC with 8 teams attending, 4 U19s and 4 mens.

2007 - GRFC Becomes full members of the North Carolina Rugby Union
(NCRU). GRFC is structured as a non-profit corporation in North Carolina as
Gastonia RFC Inc. GRFC expands its Clover 7s tournament to 8 mens
teams and 4 U19s in two separate brackets.

2008 - GRFC Plays its first season as a Division III men's club. GRFC
secures medical insurance for its members, and hosts its third Clover 7s
tournament. With a secure base of supporters, players and sponsors, GRFC
works to expand its playing squads to include women and youth rugby.
